Zachary Levi and the Nerd Machine family need your help to fund Nerd HQ 2014! Nerd HQ is a free experience for fans during the weekend of SDCC to test out the newest video games, gadgets, and tech, as well as give fans the opportunity to attend celebrity conversation panels (which Zac livestreams), photo-ops and signing-ops. In addition, funds raised during this event are contributed to the charity, Operation Smile.
Typically, they fund the event solely through Sponsorships, but last year it didn’t work out and essentially almost ended Nerd HQ. If you can spare $5 to this campaign that would be amazing, but if not, then don’t worry at all. You can show your support by spreading the word for this wonderful cause :D
Remember Nerd HQ last year? It ran alongside SDCC and it brought you fantastic conversations with your favourite stars. It gave you:
the very first orphan black panel
tom hiddleston being perfect self (including his dino impression)
the wonderful hugh dancy in a flower crown
j2 being complete goofs
there was also doctor who, NASA, joss wedon and so much more. in fact if you missed any of them they are all available in full to watch online. not just that but each and every panel was available to stream and watch live on youtube in 720p quality.
perhaps the most important part of this was every single penny raised at nerd HQ goes to the charity Operation Smile. last year they raised around $215,000
and one of the main guys behind it was zachary levi. you know the guy from chuck, or flynn from tangled!
So this year nerd machine, the company co-ran by zachary levi need our help to raise funds to create an even bigger and better nerd HQ!
Alright, tumblr! Here we go!
PLEASE read this even though it’s a novel.
Zachary Levi and some friends started The Nerd Machine a few years ago to give nerds and the usually maligned and perhaps unsocial masses of the world a place online where they could feel safe and welcomed, a haven free of bullies and general meanness. A place where they could come together to talk about the things they’re passionate about, from movies and video games to gardening and knitting. Anything. Everything. We became a family that spanned the entire globe.
In 2011, the Nerd Machine brought Nerd HQ to San Diego Comic Con. That tradition has continued each year. It’s a place where EVERYONE is welcome. There’s no entrance fee to get into the building. And they provide you with small, intimate panels with celebrities for $20 a ticket. Every cent of that money goes to Operation Smile.
Over the years, Nerd HQ has grown a little, raised over $400,000 for Operation Smile, and MORE people want access to its brilliance. And that means more lives will be changed—not just the lives of the lucky individuals who get to be there and attend panels, but the lives of the children who benefit from the beautiful work done by Operation Smile.
This year is going to be different. Bigger and better. But Zac, the Nerd Machine, and those of us who are passionate about this cause, need help making it so.
At its heart, Nerd HQ is about charity. And it’s about taking the I-Guess-If-I-HAVE-to element out of donating to a cause. Yes, it’s a massive nerd party. But since I first started going, every nerd I’ve met is passionate about Nerd HQ and equally passionate about Operation Smile. Even if you can’t be there, EVERY SINGLE PANEL will be live streamed on the Nerd HQ youtube channel FOR FREE. And this year, they’re even fielding questions from the internet to ask the celebrities in the panel. You’ll get free, interactive access to intimate panels with some of the most important people in the business. Let me tell you, these panels are the best panels you’ll EVER see. During his panel at NerdHQ13, Nathan Fillion paid for one girl’s entire two days’ worth of meals when she revealed she had her backpack stolen. And Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman crashed the Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden panel. These panels are up on the Nerd Machine youtube page right now for you to watch for free if you want examples. If you donate to this year’s Nerd HQ fund, everyone benefits, even you.
Please click that link. Even if you just want to learn more about Operation Smile, Nerd HQ, and/or Nerd Machine without donating. Please watch the video. You’ll see how incredibly massive Zac Levi’s heart is, and everyone affiliated with Nerd Machine.
Thanks everyone!!! From the bottom of my nerd heart!
You are all
YEAH NERD ARMY!!!
*nasal tone* Did we do that?
Hey guys so I’m sure you probably know what Nerd HQ is but if not it’s this super cool event that Zachary Levi hosts during SDCC weekend and he gets a bunch of stars that you all love to come to these small panels of just like 200 people where the fans can really interact with the stars and ask them whatever questions they want. In the past he’s gotten Tom Hiddleston, Seth Green, Joss Whedon, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Matt Smith, Nathan Fillion, Tatiana Maslany, Dylan O’brien, and more. The tickets are really cheap (just around $20) and other than the panels, the rest of the events are free.
Basically it’s just a really nice thing Zachary Levi organizes to reach out to fans and then he donates the money raised to Operation Smile, which he is an ambassador for. In the past he had corporate sponsorship to host the event but last year that didn’t work out so well so now he’s asking for our help to host Nerd HQ. Even if you can’t physically go there, he livestreams the panels and they’re always fun to watch for everyone. Now, since the corporate sponsoring didn’t really work out well last year, he’s asking for our help to run Nerd HQ. All he’s asking for is $5. Now I know, for some people $5 means a day’s meal, but if you can afford to spare $5 for a really good cause, you should donate it!
